If you do not bid your project out you will pay too much. You wouldn't buy a new truck without comparing prices, so why would you spend significantly more without doing the same? All projects will vary in cost depending on many variables. The proven way to get the best cost numbers on your new project is through competitive bidding and negotiation with the lowest, best qualified bidders. We do this on every project and we are good at it.
Before you hire an architectural firm for your new project you need to know who they work for. Many firms in the State routinely work for (or are on the payroll of) cities, counties or other agencies with jurisdiction over your project. Do not hire these firms. When issues arise with your project, they will more often align themselves against you to protect their income stream. We do not, and will not, accept work that compromises our commitment to our clients.
When considering an architectural firm, choose one that gives you what you pay for. Most firms make their money off the backs of draftsman and interns. After their architect meets with you, your project most often gets handed off to a draftsman or intern to do the work while you get billed the higher rate. At Crumley Architects when you hire an architect you get an architect. You get what you pay for.
